My Statement
British Columbia provides endless opportunities for visual imagery. The integrity of a photograph lies in what it captures beyond the purely natural. It might be by virtue of its selection, its depth, angle, color combination, or balance of elemental forms, or by how it invites the viewer to suspend her remote point of view, come inside, and then how long she lingers there. Sometimes I see it immediately, in the lights, the tree trunk, the movement of the clouds, or the vanishing point defined by the parked cars. At other times, I see it only later in the details of the wider view, the isolation of two red leaves against an ambiguous background, water cascading down a chasm, or the geometric balance between chiseled stone, rusted metal and weathered paint. The driving force behind my artistic vision is a combination of curiosity, memory, time and feeling and their idiosyncratic relationships with color. The challenge is always to create a vision that transcends the natural world, stimulates the imagination and exalts the world that is its inspiration.

A BIT ABOUT ME
I have always had a keen interest in photography but it wasn’t until I was in my early 40’s that I truly became passionate about it. Prior to that I had always gravitated towards work in scientific fields, of which photography was a big part. It just wasn’t photography for its own sake. Now that’s changed.
I was born locally, and Vancouver has always and will always be what I consider to be my home. I have a connection to the coast, and living here provides me so many opportunities to photograph the things I love- city-scapes, natural landscapes, and of course the wildlife. The Pacific Northwest is full of such boundless beauty, and it continues to be a daily inspiration to me. I don’t think I will ever run out of places or things to photograph here.
Photographers will quite often talk about that elusive “perfect shot”. I’m not sure that it exists, and I don’t chase it the way some do.
I take images of things that move me, of places that inspire me. I want to share those images, and the feelings that I experience when I see those things and those places.
For me, that’s the inspiration.
